Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. |
I urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. Jude 3 |
You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me. John 18:37 |
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 |
For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 2 Peter 1:16 |
"...So why should we fear science when Rom 1:20 makes it clear that the reality we discover through science will point to God and his unfolding plan in creation... "
Sorry, but that is fallacious. Rom 1:20 does not say that science will point in the same direction (at least not by means of Creation Science or Intelligent Design). It says that the pagans should have known there is a God..."from the things that have been made." Hearn assumes that this is necessarily speaking of science--but what if Paul simply speaks of the fact that things themselves have been made? Paul is not making an intelligent design argument (i.e. that we can detect God via complexity, information theory...), he is simply saying that there is a philosophical/spiritual truth that we should perceive the truth that there is a God, and yet we suppress it by sin.
It does not say that we will be able to detect God with science, such that we can do the 'lab work' and then present our result to the world. Sorry. Paul did not have the scientific method in mind. He says that sin is the problem.
I don't think we will ever be able to 'prove anything about God with science except what we already believe about him.

Exactly.
God says, “I gave you a brain! Use it my defense! I know I can stand the test!”

The bottom line is good science and good theology point to the same reality. Are we not realists here who disagree with the likes of Hawking who says there is no model-independent world and neither the creationist nor the materialist is really right? Of course we are. So why should...
