Apologetics as a branch and field of Christian mission are more relevant than ever in today's world. With the apparent rise of 'New' Atheism (or indeed 'post' New Atheism and the prevailing secular culture we need to be fully equipped, as Christians, to respond in our everyday engagements with those around us.

Methods of communication have moved so rapidly over the past 10 years, with the growth of social media, leading to a need for churches to be up to speed with the latest innovations and respond accordingly.

We are each called to this task, to defend our Lord and our faith, in the face of doubt and skepticism. As human beings created in the image of God, we are imbued with a natural sense of asking spiritual questions. Therefore apologietics can tap into the growing need to respond with sensitivity, but also courage, conscience and conviction.

I was at a crisis point in my faith--did I really believe what I said I did? Why? When I couldn't answer those questions I was terrified. In my desperation I began to search for answers, and I came across The Poached Egg. I was relieved to find a whole DISCIPLINE of Christian ministry that welcomed The Big Questions...and set about to answering them not just from the Bible, but from logic and extra-biblical evidence.

I would love a copy of The Dawkins Delusion.

I was a member of a Southern Baptist Church where the senior pastor allowed the teachings of Rob Bell to be used in the church. He balked at the suggestion that Rob was teaching anything other than the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The correct handling of God's word is being compromised in so many churches and so few teach why we should believe in the inerrant word of God.

Apologetics has helped steer me from the "blind faith", I had always thought Christians had, to something far more rational and logical than i had ever imagined... My study's have proved very enormous in witnessing to skeptics.. Cant count how many fallacies I have corrected or cleared up to others that were not as informed or had listened to angry diatribes of others... I used to think that Christianity would bind me, but rather it did the opposite:)

The Apostle Peter commands believers to be active in apologetics (1 Peter 3:15). Good answers defending our hope in Christ both strengthen believers' faith and help move unbelievers toward Christ.

I appreciate The Poached Egg for its excellent apologetics resources.

I am most interested in On Guard: Defending Your Faith with Reason and Precision by William Lane Craig.

Apologetics help to live out 1 Peter 3:15 by providing us with solid reason and it can help to remove stumbling blocks that litter the path to Christ for the "pre-Christian."

I read this website more than any other except facebook. Apologetics via TPE has deepened my faith and prepared me to give an answer to all who would question Christ and Christianity

I have been so grateful since I have found TPE. It has led me to the resources that helps me to express my christianity in common sense ways. It has grounded me and made me more comfortable in expressing and living a Christian life.

Not only has apologetics bolstered my faith, but I believe it has helped me to "put a stone in the shoe" of several family members who are not believers. (the quote was from Greg Koukl). I learned what apologetics is and started studying in just as we were beginning to launch our kids off to college- so the timing couldn't have been any better. I love getting texts from my daughter when she is asked a hard question by a friend - like how can you trust the Bible when it has been handed down so many times, just like the game of telephone. What I love most is that I am now able to point her to the answer and that there ARE answers.

I would be happy to receive any of the books listed b/c if I received a duplicate, I have several people that I have in mind who would like to read about apologetics (although some if them don't know it yet:).

I love your site! Thanks for helping me find relevant articles that I would no doubt miss if I was just browsing the Internet. I love that they just pop up in my newsfeed.

9 out of 10 teenagers from evangelical families are leaving the church.

I'd choose "A case for faith" and "Who made God"

I had several friends become part of the new atheist movement recently. I need all the resources I can to combat this. Thepachedegg.net is a great resource, but I'm always looking for more resources!

It's vital for Christians to understand both what they believe and why they believe it; we're called upon as believers to always be ready to give a reason for the hope that's within us - not only out of intellectual honesty and to honor the God-given gift of reason we've each been granted, but to bring light and truth to the world around us.

We need to know how to defend our faith. And we need to teach our children especially.

"All men," Aristotle tells us, "by nature desire to know." God has placed within the beings made in His image the desire to know real, objective truth. Apologetics, then, is so important because it relies on human reason to articulate the evidential power of nature in order to make known the One who is the way, the truth, and the life, John 14:6 -- allowing the Christian to make a cogent defense of one's identity in Christ and inspire others to join the living Church that is His body. In the words of Pope John Paul II: "Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of the truth."

I believe apologetics is necessary for believers and for unbelievers. This is because through it, we believers are given a foundation for what we believe. More importantly, believers and unbelievers should realize that the strength of good apologetic arguments verify the fact that there is a God and that He is the God of the Bible. This is critical for establishing a Christian worldview that affects every aspect of life. If the God of the universe is the God of the Bible, this affects the way we see science, the arts, literature, gender, economics, and matters of morality, to name a few things. In other words, Jesus is Lord of morality and Lord of the molecules. The world we live in, then, is shaped by His lordship, and we are able to readily defend this. I would love to receive What has Christianity Ever Done for Us? or perhaps the Dawkins Delusion. I thoroughly enjoy this site; keep the good posts coming!

Apologetics is something I use in my classes as I teach the truth of the Bible

If I am to "go on to perfection" (Hebrews 6:1), I need to wean myself off of "milk" (Hebrews 5:13), and start chewing on some hearty, "solid food," so I can exercise my senses "to discern both good an evil" (Hebrews 5:14); and mature in understanding (1 Corinthians 14:20) towards the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 2:5-7).

The Poached Egg provides a menu of things that will cause "babes in the faith" to put some hair on their chest.

Although I am determined not to know anything "except Jesus Christ and Him crucified" (1 Corinthians 2:2)--for knowledge only "puffs up" (1 Corinthians 8:1)--maybe, just maybe, by studying apologetics, I may also be made "ready to give a defense" to anyone who asks a reason for the hope that is in me (1 Peter 3:15).

;-)

Congrats on three years. I stumbled upon this site a couple years ago and love the articles and resources.

"Good philosophy must exist, if for no other reason, because bad philosophy needs to be answered." CS Lewis

Apologetics is important for the purpose of carrying out the great commission. It provides Christians with information much needed to carry on an intelligent and reasonable conversation with those who doubt. In these days of time we are certain to be confronted by people who will dispute the truth of the Gospel and the worst thing we can do is become the argumentative Christian who pushes even further away from God those that we (and He) are trying to reach. Apologetics has also (and continues to) open my heart and mind to many wonders of our God whom I am completely in awe of.

Every believer must develop their own Apologetic to fit their style of evangelism and the people that the Lord brings across their path. It's simply a matter of being eqipped to minister in one's environment- minister with Spirit & Truth so that God can bring conviction upon the heart of a lost soul. PTL for TPE!!! AMEN.

Congratulations on the 3rd anniversary. The Poached Egg has been and continues to be a great source for apologetics for me. Keep on the good work! (Who Made God?)

Apologetics ministries are important because they has proven themselves to be a tool which God has chosen to use to advance his Kingdom.

Love your web site. Would love to have a copy of On Guard: Defending Your Faith with Reason and Precision

Apologetics is necessary in today's culture of secularism, scientism, and skepticism to help young Christians maintain their faith, grow stronger in their knowledge of what they believe and why they believe it and then reach others with the truth of the good news. I work with students at both the high school and college level and find so many young people who are eager to hear good evidence for their faith. I would love to have a copy of Who Made God.

Thanks for all the great articles you bring to my attention. I post many of them to the RC at Winona State U (MN) Facebook page.

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
