LINK101: Welcoming and Connecting International Students in America
Phyllis Beard is the founder of LINK101, a co-host of YSU’s International Coffee Hour, owner of My Crystal Keepsake and a talented artist. Her family is also an international host family for Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program.
Several years ago I attended an International Coffee Hour at Youngstown State University and had the opportunity to meet students from all over the world. Inspired by the idea of providing a welcoming hand to these young people, my family has gone on to host many International students at our home. Connecting with students from other countries has been a profoundly rewarding experience for us and has had a positive impact on the lives of our students.
In my desire to see more Americans share in this experience, I established LINK101. The goal of LINK101 is to help facilitate cross-cultural friendships between college students and their community. Through providing venue locations for international events, information on how to get involved and listing organizations that foster diversity, we hope that more people will be able to take part in welcoming internationals!
