Greg’s Note: A very big THANK YOU to all of the the awesome guests who appeared on The Poached Egg Podcast in 2012. We did 10 episodes last year and I’m hoping that we’ll at least double that in 2013. I had hoped to be able to do one a week, but that’s just not a realistic goal at this time, but we’ll keep working towards that goal and get there eventually—all in God’s perfect timing. The episode’s special guest, J Warner Wallace, is getting lots of attention as of late due to the recent release of his first (and hopefully not last) book, Cold-Case Christianity: A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels. As you may have guessed, Wallace is a cold-case homicide detective having served as a police officer and detective in Los Angeles County for nearly twenty-five years. In this podcast, J Warner Wallace explains how as a former hardcore atheist who denied the existence of the supernatural, he used the same investigative techniques that he would for any cold-case homicide to determine whether or not the gospels were true and reliable. The Poached Egg Podcast is back! After taking a hiatus in doing the show for the summer, I felt like it’s time I got it going again. I might have put it off a little longer, but when Dr. Holly Ordway reminded me that she had an open invitation to be on as a guest I took it as a sign and we scheduled a time to have a conversation via Skype to talk about her website, atheism, C.S. Lewis, imaginative and literary apologetics, her new faculty position at Houston Baptist University, and women in apologetics. Yeah, I know, that’s a lot to cover in under an hour, but we managed even though it could have easily gone longer. Imaginative apologetics is something I’ve always had a strong interest in, but in this podcast, Dr.Ordway made me realize just how important this topic is when it comes to engaging culture with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

It was a special privilege for me to have Dan Call as my guest as he just happens to be the lead pastor of my home church, New Life, in Springfield, MO. Pastor Dan recently led us in a sermon series titled, '”Hot Topics”, during which we had a panel of expert scholars and knowledgeable laymen to answer tough questions from the congregation related to theology and apologetics. In this podcast, Pastor Dan and I discuss the role of apologetics in the church and in everyday Christian life.

As a pastor and teacher, this week’s guest, Anthony Weber, tried to help people deal with the grief that accompanied the death of a loved one. In 2003, he experienced that loss for himself when his father, a minister and counselor, died of pancreatic cancer while still in his fifties. Suddenly, Anthony’s personal experience challenged his carefully crafted theological understanding of pain and grief.

Anthony had to revisit a lot of big questions that he thought were resolved: Why is life so hard? What kind of God allows this, and why? Why do I feel so disconnected from others? How do I handle the roller coaster of emotions? Why am I now consumed by fear? How should I view the presence of pain in the world? How do I, as a pastor, teach my congregation how to pray when I can’t pray anymore? Can I doubt? How long can I cry? And how long will God put up with me?

Join me this week as Anthony and I discuss his struggles with these questions and others, how he dealt with them, and what inspired him to write it all down in his book, Learning To Jump Again: A Memoir Of Grief And Hope.

It’s a special privilege for me to have as my guest this week, physicist and theologian, Dr. Edgar Andrews from the UK.  Dr. Andrews is the author of Who Made God? Searching for a Theory of Everything , which  has been described as, “Thought-provoking, witty, extremely readable, and ultimately devastating in his critique of evolutionary atheism--demonstrating that a right understanding of the scientific enterprise poses no threat to biblical Christianity -- indeed, that the kind of world we live in is precisely what the biblical account of God and creation would lead us to expect.”

Who Made God? is an excellent book for the Christian layman, as well as the everyday skeptic of Christianity—a great book to read and then share with your non-Christian friends and family.

In this podcast episode, Dr. Andrews and I discuss the 'Theory of Everything’, the concept of a universe from ‘nothing’, and yes, even quantum  mechanics… Well, mostly Dr. Andrews discusses that while I listen, as I like to let the experts do the talking—I’m learning just like many of you are. I hope you enjoy listening to Dr. Andrews as much as I did talking to him and learning from him.
