Free Book Offer: Tortured for Christ

Richard Wurmbrand (1909-2001) was raised in an atheist Jewish family in Romania, and was a confirmed atheist during the early part of his life. In 1936 Wurmbrand and his wife became Christians, just in time to witness the coming of the Nazis and the beginning of persecution. After the conquest of Romania by the Russian Army, he stood firm in his faith, undertaking a ministry to the spiritually hungry that he found within the occupying Red Army. In 1948, he was arrested for the first time by the Romanian Communist government, and became subject to torture and brainwashing. This book is the story of Richard Wurmbrand and the church suffering behind the Iron Curtain.

This 1967 book became an international bestseller, and it is easy to see why. Though not written as a chronologically ordered biography, it is a powerful telling of what Pastor Wurmbrand experienced. But, even more, it is a compelling challenge to your faith, as you ask yourself if you would stand firm in the face of the persecution that he faced, and many Christians face to this day.

I think that this is an important book that all Christians should read – believers have suffered much over the millennia, suffer much today, and no doubt will suffer more in the future. Read this book, and see about one man’s faith and what he paid to hold onto it.
