Interesting that I just used this quote with a skeptic a few days ago, here’s a more complete version:

Pascal was a Jansen, they were Catholics who held to the Augustinian understanding of predestination. Of course the Popes condemned Jansenism because it was too close to reformed theology for their tastes. Hence the RCC deemed Pascal a heretic.
