Clay Jones on Ratio Christi/Biola Partnership

ratio-christi-logoI’m excited about Ratio Christi! Many years ago when Bill Bright started Campus Crusade for Christ the average university student was much more open to the truth claims of historic Christianity. In fact, the biggest thing that many Christians encountered in witnessing was that most students already thought they were Christians because they went to a Christian church. Thus we’d often resort to saying things like "standing in the garage doesn’t make you a car and going to church doesn’t make you a Christian.

Now, however, most university students do not attend Christian churches and they have been inundated by all kinds of claims that Christianity isn’t true. They’ve watched The Da Vinci Code, they’ve heard about the Lost Gospel of Judas, they’ve been told that Darwinism is unassailable fact, that James Cameron has discovered the lost tomb of Jesus, and so on and on. Many students need to have these falsehoods answered before they can take the claims of Christianity seriously. Also, many Christians are riddled with doubt and they can’t love the Lord with all their minds if they secretly suspect that Christianity can’t answer the hard questions.

That’s where Ratio Christi comes in. Ratio Christi "equips university students and faculty to give historical, philosophical, and scientific reasons for following Jesus Christ." They accomplish this by opening Ratio Christi chapters on university campuses and they’ve already opened many of them! Every campus needs Christians who can articulate the truths of historic Christianity and answer the falsehoods spread by skeptics and I don’t know anyone better suited than Ratio Christi to aid this endeavor.

I’m thankful that Biola’s Christian apologetics department has partnered with Ratio Christi because it just so happens that training students to be able to answer the toughest questions that any student of professor might pose is exactly what our department does! Also, it gives our graduates the opportunity to become full-time campus missionaries and that is an awesome opportunity. It would be wonderful if we were able to place apologists on every university campus to answer the skeptic and to encourage the Christian and that’s what our apologetics department and Ratio Christi works together to accomplish.
