Christian group opens a dialogue

WSU’s Ratio Christi counters secular worldviews.

apologetics - ratio christiIf God is all around us, then why does evil exist? Ratio Christi, Latin for “the reason of Christ,” is a global Christian organization that aims to help university students and faculty to give thoughtful answers to these types of questions.

Dave Nedostup, who has 30 years of experience in apologetics, leads an area chapter at Wright State University, in Fairborn.

“Our meetings are open to anyone. We welcome atheists, agnostics and humanists,” said RC member Jenna Hoskins, who just graduated from WSU with a degree in mass communications and broadcasting. “We’re not here to push our beliefs on anyone. We use reason and logic to express how we defend the biblical worldview.”

They meet on Tuesday evenings in the Student Union at WSU and are planning ways to grow their organization and set up events this fall. RC connects and interacts with other Christian organizations at WSU, such as Campus Crusade for Christ and Campus Bible Fellowship, to combine strengths. Led by Nedostup, other members at a recent meeting included Shannon Combs, chapter president Chris Kouse, Donnie Piper, Jim Stiffler and Andrew Wailes.

Combs produced a promotional video about Ratio Christi. This video will be sent to the national office to be distributed to all the RC chapters worldwide.

“We try to provide honest answers to honest questions,” Combs said. “Our Purpose Statement quotes Scripture in 1 Peter 3:15, ‘Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.’ ”

Group roots

Ratio Christi president Rick Schenker left public office in 2006 because he wanted to get involved in evangelism. There was just one problem: He wasn’t effective at giving sermons. Several years later, he discovered the fledgling RC group on the Internet…
