Paul CopanChristians can become myopic by reading scripture through their own cultural or denominational or contemporary lenses. So we are wise to humbly listen to the experiences of fellow Christians from other denominations, cultures, and eras. We need the enrichment of a global, cross-denominational and historical perspective to enhance and deepen our discipleship. We can be enriched in our understanding of God and assisted in our Christian pilgrimage by giving heed to fellow travelers. As New Testament scholar Ernst Käsemann once said, ‘In scholarship as in life, no one can posess the truthexcept by constantly learning it afresh; and no one can learn it afresh without listening to people who are his companions on the search for that truth. Community does not necessarily mean agreement’. — Paul Copan (from When God Goes to Starbucks: A Guide to Everyday Apologetics)
