The Ministry and Apologetic Effect of Duck Dynasty
by Matt Rawlings
We are on the eve of a new season of the hit show Duck Dynasty. I was slow to warm up to the show because I typically hate reality shows. My son, however, wanted to watch it and, lo and behold, we became addicted.
If you are one of the few Christians who have never seen Duck Dynasty, here is the breakdown: The Robertson family own and run a highly successful business that is best known for a duck call patented in 1973 by the patriarch of the family, Phil. The show focuses on the drama that occurs between the family members such as the CEO of the business Willie and his employees, including two of his brothers, Jase and Jep, and his eccentric uncle Si, who are always trying to find ways not to work.

The uniqueness of the show, and the reason for its popularity with Christians, is that the Robertson family are open about their faith and end every show with prayer… in Jesus name no less! More importantly, the faith of the family doesn’t just provide Christians with something to watch on Wednesday nights but also may be kicking down doors for the faith with non-believers…
