3 Biblical Reasons for Every Christian to Do Apologetics

It is often wrongly assumed that apologetics is only for smart people, professionals, and those in the university. Not so! Apologetics is important for every Christian without exception. Let’s look at 3 pieces of Scripture that call every Christian to do apologetics.

1.We are to Make Disciples

Matthew 28:18-19 – Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

Have you ever considered that some of the disciples were people who would have likely been hostile to Christianity if Jesus Himself didn’t call them personally? Tax-collectors, Pharisees, Zealots, Fishermen. They probably would have been quite happy in their old lifestyle if they weren’t persuaded that there was something better.

Here Jesus is calling us to make disciples. Isn’t it reasonable to assume that we will find people are hostile to our message at first? Didn’t Jesus promise this (John 15:18-21)?

Unfortunately, you’re not Jesus and you can’t simply give people a look that makes them give up their whole lives to be a disciple. You’ll need to be a bit more persuasive than that. Simply preaching at someone without doing any sort of apologetics may work, but it’s less common in today’s day and age. You will get asked challenging questions which leads to the next point…
