In recent months college campuses around the country have erupted in politically correct protests. Welcome to the world of “micro-aggressions, safe spaces, and trigger warnings!” Freedom of speech and the very nature of reasoned dialogue are under attack. In the midst of this craziness on both high school and university campuses, one group of students—Christians—are increasingly marginalized. The bias against students’ with deeply held Christian values is pervasive. It may not be violent persecution yet–but their mouths are being shut, their rights violated, and their beliefs trampled.
Discouraging? It doesn’t need to be!

“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.” ~ 1 Peter 4:12-14

Shining in the darkness. Without shrinking back Ratio Christi is actively engaging with students and faculty, championing the intellectual credibility of Christianity, reaching non-believers with the truth and grace of Jesus Christ, and supporting students who face legal and bureaucratic challenges to proclaiming and defending the faith on campus. And . . . we are making an impact on some of the hardest to reach students. Here is a recent comment from an outspoken atheist student that attends one of our chapters:

I like the club a lot.  I wish we had more/longer times to get together. . . Last year, the cosmological argument (for the existence of God) . . .  was completely new to me . . . I enjoy discussing the philosophical topics more than anything, but all of it interests me.”

At the very first event for the new chapter at University of Iowa a highlight was meeting the table neighbors, Secular Students at Iowa. The RC club is looking forward to many respectful exchanges of ideas with their new friends and even plan to do some events together to share their differing perspectives with students. We know that the truth of Christ will win the hearts and minds of students and faculty. Above is a picture of the two groups together at the event (Aug. 22, 2015). Ratio Christi has a unique ministry to those who are actively running away from God.

Here’s another testimony from a student named Monica at a university in California demonstrating why supporting the intellectual credibility of Christianity on the university so important:

“College can really take a toll on a student’s faith, and RC provides fact-based support for the Christian worldview that can be hard to find elsewhere. RC helped me conquer my doubts and fall even more in love with the Word. All the aspects we discuss, from history to logic to philosophy, are fascinating and equip us to defend our faith in an ever-more hostile and confused environment.”

While we are fighting an uphill battle—whether in the universities or high schools—comments like the one above encourage and remind us we are making a very real impact—getting students to think better, ask good questions, and interact with others about issues of faith and culture. It only takes one student who recognizes the truth and trusts Christ to make a large impact.  God is good. Ratio Christi is on the front lines and we love what we are doing.

The Ratio Christi team is keenly aware that our mission to the university is dependent on your financial partnership as we look forward to exciting opportunities in 2016.
