So you believe Jesus is Lord as He claimed
If you are on this page then most likely you are with Clive and believe Jesus is who He claimed to be. This is great news, but merely recognizing who Jesus is does not necessarily mean you are forgiven of your sins and gifted eternal salvation (as the demons in Mark 8:29 demonstrate when they say, ““What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”). There is a difference between believing in and believing that. Some people believe that Jesus exists but hate Him. Belief in results with eternal salvation because one is putting their faith and trust in Christ Jesus alone for salvation.
So the next question is this, “Do you believe the gospel that leads to eternal life?” In order to answer that question we must first qualify what the gospel of Christ is and why we need it. All people at all times, places, and cultures have sinned (broken God’s laws in thoughts, words, or actions), so all of humanity is in need of a rescue mission. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23.
The good news is that, “while we were still sinners Christ died for the ungodly,” Romans 5:8. This good news (the life, death, & resurrection of Jesus Christ) is more than just wishful thinking, it is what was accomplished by a series of historical events summarized by an early creed recorded by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:3-7, “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas (Peter), then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.”
To be saved, one acknowledges that he is a sinner who is incapable of meriting his own salvation and in need of rescue. One must believe that God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins and on the third day He rose from the grave proving that He defeated sin, Satan, and death. One is saved if he puts his faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
I believe but I still have questions that I need answered.
